The right tile adhesive
makes all the difference.

Inspect the substrate for cracks, hollow patches, and dampness. Whether it is a floor tile or wall tile application, the base must be structurally sound before any tile adhesive is applied.

Select the right tile adhesive based on tile size, substrate type, and application area — floor tiles, wall tiles, wet zones, or outdoor. Choosing the wrong grade is the single most common cause of tile failure on site.

Use the mixed tile adhesive within its specified open time — typically 20 to 30 minutes depending on site conditions. Adhesive applied beyond open time loses grab and the tile will not bond regardless of pressure applied.

For floor tiles or wall tiles 600×600mm and above, apply a thin layer of tile adhesive to the back of the tile as well. This ensures full contact across the entire tile face and eliminates hollow spots under load.

Use tile spacers for uniform joints and a rubber mallet to bring each tile flush with its neighbours. Check regularly with a spirit level — corrections must be made before the adhesive begins to set.

Wipe tile faces with a damp sponge before grout haze sets. Avoid flooding the joints with water at this stage as it weakens fresh grout.
